STARTED GUN-DOG TRAINING
IN-HOME TRAINING & BOARD AND TRAIN
This program is designed with the beginner level dog in mind to teach basic foundational skills to train a sound and confident gundog at the started level. This program will be personalized based upon the desire to compete in hunt tests along with waterfowl hunting or waterfowl hunting primarily or hunt tests primarily. This program is offered to the city of Sulphur, Louisiana and surrounding area by Austynn Hoffpauir.
What behaviors are to be expected to be gained from program?
Every program is centralized to the goals of the clients needs which will be dependent on whether they are looking for a program more focused towards hunting tests compared to waterfowl hunting. Programs can be formatted to meet needs of the client wanting to partake in both hunt testing and waterfowl hunting.
WATERFOWL HUNTING, HRC, AKC SKILLS
Introduction to Prey Bird
The dog will be able to retrieve and locate the prey bird of hunters choice. Examples of such prey birds can include ducks, geese, quail, pheasant, chukar.
Hold
The dog will learn how to keep the retrieved item within their mouth until given the appropriate cue to release.
Hunting & Searching
The dog will be able to independently work the odor of a fallen bird to find them efficiently both on land and on water.
Gun Fire Introductions
The dog will be introduced to gun fire in an appropriate manner to prevent sensitivity allowing them to be comfortable with the sound.
Settle
The dog will learn how to soothe itself during waiting periods of retrieves.
Heel
The dog will learn to be in a seated position on the handlers non shooting side with shoulder aligned with leg.
Sit-Stay
The dog will be in a seated position and will stay seated until release cue is given.
Swimming
The dog will be introduced to swimming in different water types including clear and unclear waters variable vegetation.
Steadiness
The dog will remain within the blind or position when retrieves are possible until given the appropriate cue.
Marked Retrieves
The dog will be able to watch a fallen bird or bumper and be able to “mark” the location and go to the area of fall promptly.

What are the requirements for the started gun-dog program?
The program requires dogs to be a minimum of 4 months (16 weeks) of age. Proof of appropriate vaccinations are required for enrollment. This includes DHLPP (Distemper, Canine Adenovirus types 1 & 2, Leptosporosis, Canine Parainfluenza Virus, and Canine Parvovirus), Rabies, and heartworm prevention of owners preference.
Females in season are allowed for the program but will be withheld from swimming lessons for a minimum of 4 weeks after first bleeding noted.
What is expected from the in home program?
30 Minute Phone Consultation
Over the phone consultation to discuss goals from training services.
1 Hour Private Training Sessions x6
A scheduled 1 hour private training session that can be done in home or depending on the goal of the behavior in a specified location.

What is expected from the board & train program?

Minimum 2 Month Stay
Dog will stay with trainer for a minimum of 2 months to lay foundational skills for training.
1 Hour Lesson for Parents x4
The parents will get 4 in home or on property lessons with dog to go over different learned skills during the duration of the stay.

$1350 per month

Austynn Hoffpauir, owner and primary trainer for Positive Mark. She has been professionally working with dogs as a kennel assistant, doggy daycare supervisor, and veterinary assistant since 2018.

With her personal dog, Lace, she has competed in multiple sports-scentwork, hunt tests, dock diving, barn hunt, and shed hunting. In addition to dog sports that they compete in, she and Lace work together in other disciplines such as waterfowl hunting in Southwest Louisiana and conservation detection to locate bird and bat fatalities from wind turbines.
Austynn offers reward based dog training services for obedience, puppy manners, exercise excursions, and started gun-dog.
